Startup: 199Jobs

1. What is the startup about?
199jobs

199Jobs is a marketplace for simple services and small jobs, starting at an affordable 199 Philippine Pesos.

2. What specific need or problem does it address?

For managers and entrepreneurs, it's a great place to outsource and buy services to save money & time, and remove the stresses of hiring.
For freelancers, students and many others, it's a great place to offer and sell your services to earn extra income on your spare time.

3. How did it start?

The idea to put up 199Jobs came from the realization that there is a need to provide individuals, particularly freelancers and managers, an easy and convenient way to connect and work together.

The marketplace was born from that goal, and we have been working since early this year to help people make money and get things done.

4. How does it work?

It works like your regular classified ads website, but instead of products, all the listings are services with the basic price of P199.

If you want to make money from your skills, all you have to do is post a job, upload some sample works, market your page and wait for people to buy your jobs.

If you're looking to outsource some work, then you can navigate or search through the site until you find someone who can do the task you need. After that, it's as straightforward as ordering the job and then communicating with the seller on how to accomplish the job needed.

5. How to avail of this product or service?

Signing up is free and all you need to get started is register and decide if you want to be a seller or a buyer, but you can do both with one account.

Posting a job as a seller is free as well. On the other hand, buyers need to pay first if they want to order a job. This ensures protection for both the seller and the buyer as the site acts like an escrow.

After the seller completes the job, then the money is released to their account. However, if the job was not fulfilled, then we just refund back the payment to the buyer.

6. How does it use social media in its marketing and operations?

Our main focus right now is content marketing. We have a blog where we write about productivity, freelancing, marketing and entrepreneurship. Then we use Facebook and Twitter to promote these content and also, to nurture our community of users.

7. What makes it unique from other startups?

199Jobs is the first-to-market this kind of startup in the Philippines and currently, the only active marketplace where you can conveniently buy and sell simple services and small jobs online.

8. Who are the founders and what do they do?

199Jobs.com is founded by two entrepreneurs, Glenn Santos and Fitz Villafuerte.

Glenn has been helping people earn extra income online for seven years now through memokitchen.com, a copywriting and content creation service business. As founder, he leads the business planning, operations and community development of the site.

Meanwhile, Fitz has been helping people increase their financial literacy since 2007 through Ready To Be Rich (fitzvillafuerte.com), his business, investments and personal finance blog. As co-founder, he is part of the business development team and leads the planning and implementation of its marketing strategies.
